hey everyone! just a quick note to let you all know that we are here safe and sound! we spent the first few days in bethel in bangkok. the brothers and sisters there were wonderful and helpful as you can imagine.
yesterday we arrived in pattaya. i can see that in thailand i am going to have to face a few of my fears head on. for instance, anyone who knows me well knows that i am a total scaredy-cat when it comes to all things involving speed, horsepower, helmets, adrenaline, inordinate amounts of fun etc. but i am having to let that go. our 90 minute taxi ride from bangkok to pattaya was on a large interstate, travelling 100 mph (no joke!) with NO seatbelts. ok. no biggy. then here in pattaya, as soon as we met a few of the brothers, they took us to the big supermarket on the backs of their scooters. zipping in and out of traffic that doesn't seem to follow any rules at all. yikes! when i close my eyes its less scary. i am definitely gonna have to get used to it though because it looks like we are going to have to rent a scooter ourselves for a whopping 75.00 a month. the alternative would be to take scooter taxis everywhere...and we experienced that last night on the way to meeting. thai people are not very big, but this particular thai taxi driver was. so imagine him driving, me in the middle, jake on the back of the scooter. it was intimate to say the least. a sweaty christina sandwich. sorry to put that image in your head:-)
thats it for now. pictures will hopefully come soon. the internet here isn't great and all the script is in thai...so i'm having a hard time figuring out how to navigate.
love you all!

  4. Can you get a helmet for when you get a scooter? Jake is a bit wobbly when it comes to two wheeled motor vehicles.
